As previewed on IG. This is the "Stargazer," a sweet lady with twinkling stars in her eyes. I accented her with a clear sparkling cz and a White Opal (lab).
Here's a little insight into the process and my thought on creating this unique design. I stumbled across an Antique find that sparked the initial idea for the Secret Keepers. I found an antique pillbox while Antique hunting a few months ago, which had a similar motif. I immediately recognized the die struck motif and knew I had the working tool, struck from an Antique Master from Paris. Since I am trying to keep the original in the best shape possible, I like to cast the ones I strike. It allows me to work them into designs while preserving the original. And, of course, I had to put my spin on it and get extra fancy. I loved the idea, but I really wanted to make it my own. Like most of my ideas, I sketch out a rough idea, typically 5 or 6 variations. Sometimes I love one and move to create pretty quickly. Other ideas like these Secret Keepers need a bit longer and more work in the design process. So I like to keep these in the back of my mind until I can puzzle out their closure and what materials I wanted to use. While I like lockets, I'm not too fond of the hinges. I find that they are too limiting. Especially if I want to make the top of the Secret keeper a stand-alone pendant. Ultimately I decided on a tension fit. Or creating a bezel within a bezel with extra thick shapes silver that nested snugly inside the other.
This secret keeper is a smaller vessel with a hidden crescent moon. The moon is made from layers of Sterling and Fine Silver sheets superheated till they melt together for a reticulation effect. It gives the silver an interesting texture I like to use for moon surfaces.
As stated above, the Secret Keeper has been designed for a snug tension fit. I didn't want to detract from the decorative edges. I did the drop test and wore it for an afternoon around the house, to make sure it was a sturdy design. But as always, my pieces come with a warranty. If it sometimes goes amiss due to a design or craftsmanship flaw, I am happy to make it right.
Absolutely one of a kind.
